Curious Moon Workshops Curious Moon Puppets Workshops are available to compliment our shows or to offer “hands-on” experience in creating and working with puppets. Choose the ones that are right for you from the assortment below, then use our online "Request Form" to request a date for your workshop! (The number of participants and associated fees are negotiable for all workshops)   Single-Session Workshops   GLOVE PUPPET WORKSHOP “Look Ma, One Hand!” Recommended Ages: 5-11 Know a story or song with five or more characters? Ever perform a puppet show using only one hand? Now’s your chance to create your own show, including sets, costumes and characters, on one or two gloves!   JUNK PUPPET WORKSHOP “Who’re You Calling Trash?!” Recommended Ages: any Dirty erasers, broken toothpicks, ripped sponges… Junk? No, puppets! Come and see the creatures that emerge from everyday household items. You’ll never look at “junk” the same way again!   PAPER CUP PUPPETS “If you’re thirsty for puppets…” Recommended Ages: 5-10 Children will be taken step by step through the process of making their own moving-mouth puppet. Once the basic puppet is complete, they can choose from a variety of fun craft supplies and decorate their puppets. A brief lesson on moving mouth manipulation will follow the craft activity, time permitting. This workshop can also be adapted to “Dragon Puppet Making,” a follow up to the Dragon Whistle production.   SCARF MARIONETTES “…sometimes, there are strings attached!” Recommended Ages: 5-10 Marionettes aren’t too difficult to build for beginners! We’ll take you through the steps to build your very own scarf marionette, and then we’ll teach you how to make it dance.   SHADOW THEATRE WORKSHOP “Me and My Shadow…” Recommended Ages: 8-15 Explore one of the oldest forms of puppetry while creating a circus of delights with shadow figures, projections, and light effects. Design your own shadow puppets to continue the magic at home!   SIMPLE ROD PUPPETS “Stick ’Em Up!” Recommended Ages: 3-5 Young children can make puppets too in this workshop that uses simple construction techniques. Emphasis is placed on decoration and creativity. Each child will have a chance to tell everybody about their puppet and show us how it walks and talks.   SOCK HAND PUPPETS (CREATION & PERFORMANCE) “Let Your Fingers Do the Walking!” Recommended Ages: 8-13 Create your own hand puppet from a simple sock and learn the basics of hand puppet manipulation through music and improvisation.     Multi-Session Workshops   GIANT PUPPET & MASK WORKSHOP (2 Day Workshop) Recommended Ages: 10-15 Time to get down and dirty! Sculpt giant puppets and masks out of burlap and wheat paste, then decorate and use in a puppet pageant like no other!   PUPPET MINI-CAMP (1 Week Sessions) Recommended Ages: 7-9 or 10-12 Spend an hour or two a day with us, learning the ins and outs of puppets! Create a puppet show from start to finish, from writing the script, designing and building the puppets, to performing your incredible creation for family and friends! Many forms of puppetry will be explored; maybe we’ll even invent a few of our own! The week ends with a public performance. A cookies and juice reception is recommended.
